Ecuador is undoubtedly one of Global Family Travels’ favorite destinations for family adventures. Traveling to Ecuador with kids is one of the most enriching and unforgettable experiences we offer. This vibrant country captivates families with its extraordinary mix of landscapes, cultures, and ecosystems. From the majestic Andes Mountains to the dense Amazon Rainforest, and from colorful Indigenous markets to tranquil cloud forests, Ecuador invites travelers of all ages to connect deeply with nature, community, and tradition.

Exploring the Galápagos and Mainland Ecuador with Kids
A highlight of any family adventure in Ecuador is visiting the iconic Galápagos Islands — a living laboratory of biodiversity where you can snorkel with sea lions, walk alongside giant tortoises, and witness wildlife unlike anywhere else on Earth. But mainland Ecuador holds just as many treasures for fun family adventures: paragliding over volcanic valleys, discovering butterfly gardens and chocolate factories, joining Pachamanca cooking ceremonies, and staying with welcoming local families who make you feel at home.

Traveling in Ecuador with Kids: The Schmidt Family Reflects* on Their Adventure
We invite you to explore the wonders of traveling in Ecuador with kids through the eyes of the Schmidt family, who recently experienced our unforgettable Ecuador Family Adventure as part of a family gap year. Their journey highlights the heart and joy of immersive family travel in Ecuador, capturing meaningful connections with nature, culture, and local communities in one of the most biodiverse and beautiful countries on Earth.

From Sara, Dr. Schmidt:
Ecuador has been like a dream. We hiked through Mindo’s high cloud forests and watched hummingbirds at Yanacocha, wandered colorful markets in Otavalo and helped bury dinner in a Pachamanca, and were welcomed like family by Luis and Charito on their farm. Everyone we met was warm and inviting. We look forward to a return visit!

From Justin, Mr. Schmidt:
What impressed me most was the variety – in a few short weeks we visited Quito, the Galápagos, Mindo’s cloud forest, Otavalo’s markets and Cuicocha, hiked around Cotopaxi and then relaxed in the Patate valley. Our guide Tomas was fantastic with the kids and introduced us to a Pachamanca cooking ceremony. Staying with Luis and Charito Timpe felt like being temporarily blessed with new grandparents.

From Jonah (Age 13):
Ecuador has been one of the most beautiful places we’ve visited. The night walk in the Mindo Cloud Forest was full of spiders and frogs, and learning to cook underground at the Pachamanca was fascinating. My favorite parts were feeding chickens and calves on the farm, practicing my lasso and flying high over Baños during our first paragliding adventure.

From Simon (Age 9):
The coolest place was Hacienda El Porvenir near Cotopaxi – they had a rope course, playground and horses. Our windy hike in Cotopaxi National Park was so intense the sand felt like bullets! I loved helping with the underground cooking at Tua’s house and picking tangerines and limons on the farm, even though those thorns were tricky.

From Calla (Age 5):
My favorite thing in Mindo was the butterfly garden – butterflies landed on my arms, tummy and leg. The chocolate factory tour was fun even though the hot chocolate was bitter. On the night hike I saw huge tarantulas and a tiny frog, and at Cotopaxi we braved a windy hike with popcorn snacks. The ropes course at El Porvenir and the farm in Patate – with its toys, playhouse and soccer ball – made me want to stay forever.
